I was switching domain providers from GoDaddy, owned by elephant-killing enthusiast Bob Parsons, to Namecheap who ran a sale on domain names in Bob's honour, and donated $40,000 to a help relocate elephants (due-to-the-new-subdivisions---not kidding) charity. Bob's justification for shooting and videoing himself holding up the elephant's (head, I think). Just helping the locals. So I made my mind up to switch to Namecheap, who I knew virtually nothing about other than they donated profits to the help-the-elephants group from a short sale on services including domain names to the tune of $40,000.

Here's Spartacus: Vengeance [VIDEO] from Comic-Con and some newer/different shots of the characters of Spartacus: Vengeance  in the photos link (above and below). I cannot wait to see Lucy! I would love if the story of the slave rebellion got picked up as 'Lucretia' was being saved...and my question is by whom? The Batiatus house 'physician'? The Roman guards of  'Ilithyia' (Viva Bianca), who presumably survived the massacre by securing herself and the guards behind heavy doors? Someone else entirely? I'm voting 'Ilithyia'.

Bill Maher Interview: Rolling Stone Magazine Scans #1129 (4.28.11)

Maher Comments on Palin, Pot, & Patriotism:

It is a relief to see that Maher hasn't morphed into something like Dennis Miller or Jim Carrey--funny, smart guys who just idk, stopped making sense. Maybe it is unfair to judge Carrey but Miller used to be cool. Some guys stay cool as they age like George Carlin did and Steve Martin does--and like Bill Maher.

I like Bill Maher and the format of his HBO show. Used to watch him all the time. Since I pay for HBO and it's gonna be on the computer soon--I may start watching him again as I've been on a family-dictated steady diet of Jon Stewart w/ a side of Colbert thrown in ( I usually leave for Colbert--he's just. too. much.)

Maher would be a refreshing change.

Does anyone not have an opinion about Charlie Sheen? Comedian/talk show host Jimmy Fallon does--though he shares it in a hilarious, not-mean-to-Sheen way. It is a cautionary comedy skit ('Dude, you need to get off the ride and get some help.') and it's spot on.

In the interview, Winslet talks about body image, winning the best actress Oscar in 2009 for 'The Reader' and raising her kids (with Sam Mendes, from whom she split last year).

On being heavy when she was younger:
"I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me - and it was such a backhanded compliment - they would say, 'You've got such a beautiful face,' in the way of, like, 'Oh, isn't it a shame that from the neck down you're questionable.' "

On whether or not she's had plastic surgery or wants to change anything about her body:
"No, I have never tried any of that stuff.... I don't have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else's or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are."

On what it was like to win the Oscar:
"...I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn't on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn't me, so winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal-fist-pumping moment of yes."

On the difficulties of raising kids:
"The challenge is making sure that they're never treated different just because I sometimes am. I always want them to be regular kids who are grateful and respectful of other human beings. I want them to know that when we fly first-class, that they are lucky. The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids - and I can say that this does happen frequently - is when the in-flight crew say to me, 'Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved.' Every time I am told that, I could weep."

Spartacus: Blood & Sand Loses 'Naevia' as Lesley-Ann Brandt Exits

 

 

Starz to Recast Lucretia's Body Slave:

 

Well, this is a disappointing!

I've been looking forward to more of 'Naevia' in Season 2 of Spartacus: Blood & Sand as I've followed the current 6-segment prequel, 'Gods of the Arena.' This is kind of last minute since production on season 2 is ramping up but if the news is to be believed (and there's no reason to disbelieve it) Starz policy does not 'lock' actors into a 4-year contract upon being cast as a series regular, the way series TV traditionally does. I suppose all  there is to do is to wish Leslie-Ann Brandt the best of luck!

 

Spartacus will not be the only recast role on the second season of Starz's flagship series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I hear Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays Naevia, body slave to Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) and lover of Crixus (Manu Bennett) on the first season of the show and in the prequel, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, has decided not to renew her contract and won't return for season 2.

Brandt just started a recurring role on CSI: NY and opted to also pursue broadcast pilots, which are currently casting. The part of Naevia, a fan favorite, will now be recast. Starz is known as being less restrictive in its actors contracts, which allowed Jane Lynch to leave Party Down when she was cast in Fox's Glee.

Season 2 of Spartacus: Blood and Sand will also introduce Liam McIntyre as the new Spartacus. He replaced ailing original star Andy Whitfield. Production on the second season of the sword-and-sandal drama is slated to begin shortly.

Walking Dead: Season 2 Writing Staff Changes Continue

 

Graphic Novel Adaption Returns to 'Traditional Writing Staff Model':

As reported in December, The Walking Dead showrunner, Frank Darabont, considered shifting gears with how the show is written and use freelance writers for the next season. The latest news is that the hit AMC show adapted from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel series will return to “a traditional writing staff model with a staff comparable or a little bigger in size to Season One whose order was for six episodes versus thirteen for Season Two.”

Glen Mazzara (The Shield, Crash) has just closed a deal to be the show’s writing executive producer and No. 2 to Darabont for The Walking Dead’s second season. Mazzara has already tousled with zombies in the first season, having written the fifth episode, “Wildfire.” He replaces Charles Eglee who left to pursue a television adaptation with Sony TV of the Brian Michael Bendis / Michael Avon Oeming-penned series, Powers.

I'm supposing that besides the noise made by @sutterink (Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter)  that the Writer's Guild had some say that may have influenced this decision?

Hollywood sort of reminds me of Washington in the way that they are unlike the Average Joe who has long ago given up the perks that the privileged few that still belong to, in this case unions, cling to.

Dustin Clare, who plays the hunky Gannicus on the six-episode series, has info that might be of interest. “We’re going to lose a gladiator on tonight’s episode,” he says, bluntly in his Aussie accent.  As you’ll recall, last week we also left off with Gannicus being forced into sex with Oenomaus’ wife Melitta, and in tonight’s all new episode, Gannicus is “still reeling” from the encounter, says Clare. “In episode 3, he’s still trying to process that,” he tells us.

Looking ahead, Clare says we can look forward to “the most amazing fight we’ve ever attempted. The fight choreographers deserve all the credit for that. We did a lot of Saturdays learning that fight. Also, in terms of filming it, it took something like eight days. It’s a big fight.”

A map of snowfall in the United States is revealing right now: 49 states have snow on this 1/11/11 and only one does not.

From the southern snow storm heading north, which is affecting air travel, to the pending storm in New York City, and flurries out west, there's plenty of white stuff going around.

The lone state without a flake? It's the Sunshine State...Florida. Locals are celebrating the fact, though interestingly, parts of the state saw snow just days ago.

Even Hawaii has snow, in Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

'Rosie the Riveter' Dies

Geraldine Doyle, the factory worker who inspired the famous Rosie the Riveter poster, died on Sunday at the age of 86. Doyle took a job at a metal factory at the age of 17 and was photographed there one day wearing a red and white polka-dot bandanna on her head. That photo ended up being the inspiration for the 1942 poster, in which a woman in a similar bandana makes a muscle beneath the caption “We Can Do It.” Rosie ended up making for a better inspiration than Doyle, who barely worked at the job for two weeks.
